Overview

Los Compadres Mexican Restaurant, nestled at 1404 E Wabash St in Frankfort, Indiana, is a vibrant culinary gem that delivers an authentic taste of Mexico with heart and soul. From the moment you walk into the brightly colored building, you feel the lively atmosphere that complements the bold, flavorful dishes on the menu. Though parking can be a bit tight given the location near an intersection, the inviting space inside easily accommodates both intimate dinners and larger groups, making it a perfect spot for family outings or casual gatherings.

The kitchen excels in crafting a variety of classic Mexican fare, with standout items that linger on the palate. The Camarones Empanizados and Mexi Style Steak Tacos stand out with generous portions and fresh ingredients, satisfying both seafood and meat lovers alike. The carne asada, praised by many, earns its reputation with juicy cuts grilled to perfection, presenting rich, smoky notes that pair beautifully with their housemade salsas. Speaking of salsas, both the red and verde sauces bring distinct layers of flavor and heat, with the verde especially favored for its vibrant kick and the thoughtful gesture of offering bottles to take home, adding a personal touch to the dining experience.

Burrito lovers will find themselves captivated by the hefty servings, enough to share or save for later, while other dishes like the Gordita Mexicana and Enchiladas Mexicanas further emphasize the kitchen's versatility and respect for tradition. Drinks complement the meal perfectly — from the refreshing Michelada to the classic Corona, and even the large mason jars of fresh juices that add a modern twist to the service. The combination of flavorful food, attentive service, and a welcoming environment shines through in every visit.

Patrons like Paul W highlight the care put into preparing authentic Mexican rice and the balanced heat of their salsas, an often overlooked yet essential component of the cuisine. Other guests, including Martin Dexter, reflect on the atmosphere as “out of this world,” a testament to how the ambiance matches the elevated quality of the kitchen's output. My Young Beautiful Bride and I went to Frankfort, Indiana, for a shopping Expo and, of course, it became evident that we needed to get some lunch. We found this really interesting Los Compadres and gave it a try, WOW!! It's amazing how wonderful this place is. The atmosphere was truly amazing, and the food was Out Of This World . It's a shame that we live so far away or we would be visiting this place more often.

This is one of the better Mexican places in Frankfort. If I ever come back to town it will be one of my primary selections. The wait staff was prompt and cordial, and the food was very good. The asada on the tacos is highly recommended. The chips were very good as well! There is plenty of room on the inside for seating larger groups.

The restaurant is clean, the food is very good, and the service is excellent. We found los compadres on a Friday and came back on Sunday it was so good. The prices are very good for the quality and amount you will get. The burrito is probably a five pounder it’s so big. We love restaurants that have the bottled sauces to bring out, both are great but the verde is our favorite. They even offer you some to take home which was a new thing for us at that style Mexican restaurant. I love it when a place does the big mason jars for drinks too it’s more convenient for everyone. Flavors were all very good we tried new things each time and each time we enjoyed our meals. I’m just very excited to find a good place that isn’t so far away!

Brightly colored building is easy to see but tough to park at just due to its proximity to an intersection. The food and service more than makes up for minor parking inconvenience! We really enjoyed our Gordita and tacos. The salsa was also delicious. Looking forward to stopping back in to try other dishes!

Great service. We loved the beef arrachera plate. Home made tortillas. This place is a hidden gem! Seemed like a good deal for such large portions. Good Mexican food like they do it in Michoacan.
